This winter and spring, SEMAP will organize a series of literary events in South El Monte/El Monte. Like our previous visual arts projects, our literary events will democratize access to the arts and create a sense of place. In February, SEMAP together with Proyecto Sur Los Angeles by Dolores Dorantes, will host a writing workshop with mujeres hispanohablentes. In April, we will gift bus commuters at the newly renovated El Monte Transit Center with freshly pressed poems and freshly picked fruit to start their morning journeys. To close our SEMAP literary season, we will host a poetry picnic carne-asada style at Legg Lake to launch Vickie Vertiz’s new chapbook, Swallows.
In addition, stay tuned on our blog throughout the season for an on-going series of interviews with South El Monte/El Monte writers and all things SEM/EM/SGV literary.
